Culinery - I must be depriving John because he specifically asked for beef tacos this week. And there was ground beef on sale, so I had to oblige. Buut, I didn't want to make tacos, we do that too often. I recently watched an episode of Barefoot Contessa where Ina Garten made some meatloaf. I thought to myself- I have never made meatloaf before! I need to make this quintessentially American dish. And I need to make it for dinner right noow! Or maybe on Monday night. And yay, it's Monday night!
I used a recipe from allrecipes.com to start with (brown sugar meatloaf), but I altered it...of course. The original recipe had brown sugar in it (duh!), but I took that out. I also added additional seasonings to give the meatloaf more flavor. From what John told me, it tastes good. I can kinda taste it, but I have a sinus infection and allergies and cannot taste much at the moment. Sucks to be me! I can taste sugar just fine, though, so the glaze on the meatloaf was the best part for me. And the texture, the meatloaf has great texture.
Ingredients
- 1 Tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- scant 1/2 cup ketchup
- 1 1/2 lbs ground beef
- 1/2 cup milk
- 2 eggs
- 1 onion, chopped
- 3 garlic cloves, chopped
- 10 sage leaves, chopped
- 3/4 cup finely crushed matzo (or saltine crackers or breadcrumbs)
- salt and pepper to taste
2. Mix the ketchup and Worcestershire sauce, set aside.
3. Combine all the other ingredients together. Be careful not to overwork the meat.
4. Put the meatloaf mixture on a baking sheet and form into an even loaf. Spread the ketchup and Worcestershire mixture evenly over the meat.
5. Bake for an hour, or until the juices run clear.
